A six-month ban has been imposed on the hiring of expatriate professionals in 10 sectors in the Sultanate. Minister of Manpower Abdullah bin Nasser al Bakri announced the decision. The sectors coming under the ban include information technology, finance, human resources and administration, marketing, insurance, media, medical field, aviation sector, engineering and technical fields. A total of 16 jobs have been banned in the IT sector, including cybersecurity specialist, staff involved in computer network, computer maintenance, electronic monitoring devices, maintenance of programming devices, technicians for control devices, radio broadcast, computer networks, computer engineer, geographical information systems specialist, communication, medical devices, digital artist, computer programmer and computer operator.
Finance: Employees in money exchanges, auditing and accounting, cost accountants, securities and accountants. Marketing: Sales specialist, commercial agent, logistics and purchase specialist, stockist and commercial manager. Human resources and administration: Administration manager as well as specialists in business administration, human resources and public relations.
Insurance: Agents in general insurance, cargo insurance, vehicle insurance, property insurance, life insurance and factory insurance.
Media: Media specialist, advertising agent, paper dryer machine operator, decorative paper printing machine operator, paper dyeing machine operator, cylinder screen printing machine operator, offset printer operator, flatbed printing machine operator, paper coating machine operator, pages organiser, binding machine operator, polishing machine operator, laminating printer machine operator, rotary printer machine operator, coloured printer machine operator and paper folding machine operator.
Medical field: Paramedic, assistant pharmacist and medical coordinator.
Aviation: Flight guide, ground staff, tickets inspector, aircraft despatch staff, air traffic controller, airport transport controller, and landing and ground crew.
Engineering: Architectural engineer, survey engineer, civil engineer, electrical engineer, electronic engineer, mechanical engineer and projects manager.
Technical: Buildings inspector, electronics technician, streets inspector, mechanics technician, lab technician – soil test, lab technician – building materials, steam turbine technician, gas network extension technician, technicians in construction sector, station transforming technician, power stations technician, electrician, heat treatment technician, chemical and maintenance technicians.
